Insurance Claims Manager, London Borough of Sutton

Emma Cotton is the Insurance Claims Manager for the London Borough of Sutton and has worked for the local authority since 2005. She was involved in bringing claims in-house in April 2009 and since then has been involved in all stages of the claims management process from notification to final conclusion in a wide range of different cases and values. Emma is responsible for ensuring the quality and performance of the claims handling function for eleven councils, in addition to a portfolio of schools, academies, and wholly-owned local authority companies.

Gavin Dawkins

Before Marsh, Gavin was a Development Executive at a large independent brokerage’s new business team with responsibilities including liaising with prospects, design and execution of broking strategy, delivering presentations and requests for tenders together with design and placement of the insurance & risk programme.

John Goodman

Partner, DAC Beachcroft

John specialises in defending catastrophic and complex personal injury claims on behalf of public authority and other bodies. He is the lead partner for Public Sector at DAC Beachcroft claims. He has over 26 years' experience defending employer and public liability claims and RTA cases, mostly but not exclusively on behalf of public sector clients, including local authorities and housing associations. John is a regular speaker at ALARM and other public sector events and organises seminars and bespoke training sessions for his clients using innovative techniques.

She is a human rights and public law specialist with ten years' experience representing both individual claimants and public authority defendants. Her current practice focusses on defending claims against the police, social services or other public service providers for breaches of human rights, abuse, negligence, discrimination and police misconduct.

Charlotte Leman

Charlotte Leman is an Insurance Officer for the London Borough of Sutton and has worked for the local authority since 2019. This was Charlotte's first job after completing her Law LLB degree. She is now completing her CILEX Level 6 alongside her employment. Hollie has worked for Zurich since 2017. She holds a Law with Business Degree from the University of Portsmouth and a Diploma in Insurance, currently studying towards her Advanced Diploma. She has experience of handling all types of personal injury claims from low value to large and complex claims. Hollie joined the Specialist Claims Team in 2021 and handles a portfolio of complex claims in the following areas including Data Protection Act 2018, safeguarding/social care, clinical negligence and Equality Act 2010.

Amanda acts for a broad range of clients, in both the public and private sector. She has a broad spread of work and handles claims involving sexual, physical or emotional abuse, sexual harassment, the Human Rights Act 1998, "failure to remove", employers' and public liability, and clinical negligence. She has experience of running compensation schemes as well as dealing with recovery actions.

Paul has more than 15 years’ experience handling property insurance claims. He advises UK general insurers and London market syndicates across domestic, commercial and corporate risks. He is regularly instructed on losses relating to plant and machinery, environmental damage and landslip claims, particularly on high value risks with large uninsured losses. He has also pursued major plant and goods losses in Europe and Australasia. Paul regularly provides training to clients and brokers on claims best practice.

Daniel Whiffen

Dan has been working in the insurance Industry for 22 years and joined Zurich Municipal claims in 2006 and has had a number of roles focussed on operational delivery and technical excellence, in addition to managing portfolio of higher value and complex claims on behalf of public service customers. Dan also had responsibility for Technical Training and took a key role in designing and delivering Zurich’s award-winning Licence to Handle programme including the authoring of two CII accredited modules. Dan joined the Zurich Municipal CRM Team in June 2022 and currently looks after customers in London and the South east.
