Risk Awards 2025

This Award recognises innovative approaches to managing organisational risk that has been identified outside of normal service delivery. This would include initiatives to mitigate emerging threat, risk, and harm. This could include strategic, operation, health & safety, or project innovations. Entries will be judged on the success of the initiative in mitigating organisational risk and improving outcomes for the organisation.  

Entries should include: 

• The risk(s) identified and the reason(s) the initiative was necessary 
• The strategy and processes used in the planning and implementation of the initiative 
• Evidence of stakeholder engagement 
• The resultant output and how this has positively impacted on improving organisational efficiency and effectiveness. 

This Award recognises the best and most innovative approach to managing front line service delivery risk to our communities from any service area. This would include initiatives that help deliver better services with improved outcomes. Entries will be judged on the success of the initiative in mitigating risk and improving outcomes for the community.  

Entries should include:  

• The risk(s) identified and the reason(s) the initiative was necessary 
• The strategy and processes used in the planning and implementation of the initiative 
• Evidence of stakeholder engagement 
• The resultant outputs and how this has positively impacted on community trust and confidence. 

This Award recognises innovative approaches to improving resilience. This would include initiatives to respond to and recover from incidents. Entries could address the ability to absorb, recover, adapt and/or transform. Entries will be judged on the success of the response and recovery and how this has improved organisational resilience.  

Entries should include:  

• The reason the initiative/approach was necessary 
• The response of the organisation 
• The interaction with stakeholders 
• How lessons learnt informed changes to planning assumptions to improve organisational resilience. 

This Award recognises innovative approaches to managing sustainability risks or risks associated with sustainability strategies and activity. Entries in this category could deal with uncertain social and/or environmental events.  Entries will be judged on the success of programmes that have made a positive difference to the sustainability of your organisation or the services it provides.  

Entries should include:  

• The reason the initiative/approach was necessary 
• The strategy and processes used in the planning and implementation of the initiative, including associated risks and opportunities 
• The evidence of stakeholder engagement 
• The resultant output and how this has positively impacted on improving organisational sustainability. 

This Award recognises innovative approaches to managing strategic or operational partnership risk. Entries will be judged based on the success of the collaborative partnership approach in mitigating risk, improving outcomes for all stakeholders.  

Entries should include:  

• Explanation of what is innovative about how your partnership manages its risks 
• The partners involved and the benefits of collaborative working 
• How the approach has improved outcomes for stakeholders. 

This Award will be presented to a blue light professional or team that demonstrates how an innovative approach to a situation enabled a stronger response and better outcomes for both service and community. Entries will be judged on evidence which demonstrates how this was achieved.  

Entries should include: 

• The situation requiring the response 
• What was innovative about the approach 
• Stakeholder engagement and interaction 
• The overall response and how this enabled better outcomes 
• Evidence of the response shared within the wider blue light community. 

This Award will be presented to an apprentice, student, or someone new in a role who demonstrates enthusiasm for, and innovation in promoting risk management. Entries will be judged on evidence which demonstrates how this individual has engaged in, promoted, and developed opportunities to improve risk management.  

Entries should include:  

• How you have become engaged in the risk management process 
• How you have demonstrated enthusiasm and innovation in your role; 
• Evidence of stakeholder engagement
• How you will innovate within your organisation and wider sector. 

This Award will be presented to an outstanding professional who demonstrates achievement, commitment, and enthusiasm in the promotion of service delivery, and whose individual efforts have contributed to successes in managing risk, building resilience or developing business continuity for an organisation.  

Entries should include: 

• Professional achievements 
• Evidence of innovative working; commitment, and professionalism 
• Evidence of leadership and being exemplars in the sector 
• Involvement in ALARM or other relevant organisations and evidence of the promotion of risk management in the wider community.  

This Award will be presented to an outstanding team who demonstrate achievement, commitment, and enthusiasm in the promotion of service delivery.  

Entries should include:  

• The team's responsibilities and the services they deliver 
• Any initiative(s) the team has delivered or how the team has grown, changed or improved and the reason(s) why 
• Evidence of how the team has added value to their organisation 
• How the team is exemplary in their field and how they have shared best practice.
