Session 2 - Artificial intelligence

10.45am – 11.30am BST, 19 September 2024 ‐ 45 mins

Session

Simon will begin with an explanation of Artificial Intelligence (AI), providing a foundational understanding of what AI is and how it functions. We will then explore the role of AI in risk management, highlighting its transformative potential in processing large amounts of data quickly and accurately, and offering predictive analytics to foresee potential risks.

Following this, Simon will delve into specific use cases, starting with AI in tree damage inspection. Here, we will discuss the current challenges of traditional methods and how AI, through the use of drones and AI-powered cameras, can automate and enhance the inspection process, leading to timely and accurate data collection and proactive maintenance.

Lastly, Simon will examine AI in highways inspection, addressing the difficulties in maintaining and inspecting highways and how AI solutions, such as machine learning algorithms and high-resolution cameras, can detect and predict road defects, thereby improving safety and reducing the risk of accidents
